About John Foltz R.Ph., CHC

 I am so glad you are here and I would love to share with you a little bit about myself. Most importantly, I am a husband and father of three children. I have worked as a pharmacist for 30 years mostly in the hospital setting as a clinical pharmacist. 

My own personal story is one of struggle with obesity and tobacco addiction for most of my adult life. In my mid forties I began to experience some of the associated health problems that go along with eating a poor diet and smoking, including high blood pressure, varicose veins, peripheral artery disease, high cholesterol, and pre-diabetes. I tried to lose weight many times over the years using exercise and several diets. I would occaisionally have some some success, but I could never sustain it long term and the weight would eventually come back plus some. I had the same results with smoking trying to quit multiple times over the years only to start back up again.  In 2015 at the age of 46 I weighed over 280 lbs and was in such poor health I’d get winded walking a flight of stairs. Not surprisingly my body began to revolt and I had a serious health scare that really shook me up.

 This put me on a mission to restore my health and I began to educate myself about nutrition, functional medicine,  gut micrbiome, and any thing else I thought could help me lose weight. It took me a while, but I finally found the key to losing weight and keeping it off. Interestingly, the answer wasn’t a diet, exercise program, or supplement. It was my mind!  You see I learned change must come from inside you and be a fundamental shift in how you think about yourself and your relationship with food. The body follows the mind so changing your mindset is the key to successful lasting change.

 Every time I had attempted a diet previously, I was doing it for the wrong reasons. This forced me to use will power to try and stick to the diet which 9.5 times out of 10 is unsustainable when using will power alone. Armed with this new knowledge I learned how to look at myself and  food differently and was able to completely change my mindset. I stopped trying to lose weight and began trying to gain health. I saw myself as being on a journey to creating a healthy body and healthy life. I no longer identified as a fat out of shape middle aged man, instead I saw myself as the John Foltz I envisioned in my mind healthy, strong, and vibrant.

 Eating healthy became easy and I began to “want to” eat healthy instead of “having to” eat healthy. Over 2 years I lost 90 pounds and have been able to keep it off, because eating and living a healthy lifestyle is who I am now. Not only that, I was also able to quit smoking for good using the same mindset tactics and I have not picked up a cigarrette in 6 years! I have permanently changed my habits, but it all started with changing my mindset.

 I have a deep desire to help others who are struggling as I did, so I  became a certified health coach  while learning more about health and nutrition . I created THE CLIMB to guide others into changing their mindset first and then learning how to eat and live for health. It’s more of a journey than it is a program. As your health coach I help facilitate healthy food and lifestyle change by guiding you through the process of transforming your fundamental belief about yourself and your relationship with food so that changes made will stick.

As I was on my own journey to health, I learned so much about how food affects our bodies and the relationship between food, chronic inflammation, and disease. I learned the importance of specific nutrients like polyphenols, Vitamin D, and Omega fatty acids in promoting health and preventing disease. I learned how our unique genetic differences can affect what nutrients our body may need more or less of. I became fascinated with Nutrigenomics which is the study of how food affects a person’s genes and how a person’s genes affect the way the body responds to food. Nutrigenomics is used to learn more about how genes and diet together may affect a person’s health and risk of developing certain diseases, such as cancer.

I created Integrated Health Rx to bring all the things I have learned together to help others live healthy, happy, lives.
