Welcome to Integrated Health Rx and our weekly blog I’m calling John’s weekly Pearl. I came across this sign on a Linkedin post a while back and saved it because it spoke to me at a time when I was questioning myself. When I saw it I said to myself, “Yeah John, just be brave enough to suck at something new,” and I laughed. But, deep down I took it to heart. You see I had been working on getting this business started for over 3 years and I was really questioning if I had what it takes to make it as an entrepreneur and coach. They call it imposter syndrome and it had been rearing its ugly head telling me,” I’m not smart enough or qualified enough”. I began to compare myself with other coaches who are super successful and killing it in the health and weight loss space and thought how can I compete with them?
These were the same doubts I had time and time again over the years as I tried different diets to lose weight and restore my health. Somewhere deep in my subconscious mind there was a voice telling me, “This is going to be too hard, you’re going to be miserable on this diet, you’ll never sustain it.” And no surprise I failed time and time again. Thankfully, I found ways and created my own hacks to change my mindset and overcome these defeating thoughts. In fact, I was able to completely change the way I think about food and eating, and a result have lost over 90 pounds and kept it off.
When I saw this sign it reminded me that I knew how to defeat imposter syndrome and I began to apply the same mindset tools I used to lose weight to overcome my doubts and fears about starting this coaching business. I knew I didn’t want to end up on my death bed regretting never having tried and wondering what my life may have looked like had I gone for it. It hasn’t been easy with lots of long hours put in, but it’s my passion to keep people out of the hospital and living healthy happy lives and I have the knowledge plus my own past experiences that I know can help others.
I use these same mindset tools in my 90 day program and I know I can help people lose weight. So my first blog post is not about food or supplements, but one of encouragement to anyone desiring to accomplish something big or try something new, whether it be losing 40 pounds, trying a new hobby or sport, or starting your own business. If it can make you a better person or positively affect your life or the life of others, then be brave enough to go for it. Be brave enough to suck at something new, and have no regrets. Cheers, John
